Kentucky Depression Drug & Alcohol Addiction Rehab Treatment

Depression: A Growing Challenge in Our Communities

Depression is a prevalent mental health issue affecting adults across the United States. It can significantly impact an individual’s ability to manage their daily responsibilities, leading to potential health risks. According to the National Institute on Mental Health, an estimated 21 million American adults experience at least one major depressive episode within their lifetime. This represents approximately 8.4% of adults in the United States.

While Major Depressive Disorder is the most commonly known type of depression, several other disorders fall within the category of Depressive Disorders. These include Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder, Persistent Depressive Disorder, and Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder.

Individuals who experience Major Depressive Disorder often have a persistent depressed mood and lose interest in activities they once enjoyed. They may also experience changes in appetite, causing unintended weight changes. Other common symptoms include fatigue, sleep changes, poor concentration, and thoughts about death or suicide.

While it’s normal for people to have passing thoughts about death, persistent thoughts about suicide can be a symptom of severe depression. It’s important to monitor individuals who experience suicidal ideation and seek professional help when necessary to ensure their safety.

We believe everyone has the ability to recover from addiction.

Recognizing When to Seek Help for Depression

Depression is a serious mental health condition that affects millions of Americans. If you are experiencing symptoms such as poor personal hygiene, lack of interest in activities, difficulty concentrating, and social withdrawal, it may be time to seek professional help.

The National Institute of Mental Health reports that in 2020, 66% of American adults who experienced a major depressive episode were able to receive mental health treatment, and 71% of those with severe symptoms were treated.

It’s important to discuss suicidal thoughts with a healthcare professional, even if they do not pose an immediate risk. Suicidal thoughts can quickly escalate without proper treatment. Some individuals may fear being hospitalized if they discuss their suicidal thoughts with a healthcare provider, but mental health professionals do not aim to hospitalize individuals against their will. They work with patients to understand safety concerns and provide appropriate treatment.

Substance use disorder and depression often co-occur, and alcohol and drugs should not be used to cope with depressive symptoms. Individuals with both conditions need to receive treatment for both to achieve healthy sobriety and treat their depression effectively.

Seeking help is crucial for individuals struggling with depression. Mental health professionals can provide treatment options, including medication and therapy, to help individuals work towards recovery and improved mental health.

Understanding Depression Treatment Centers

Depression treatment centers typically utilize a combination of therapy and medication to treat depression effectively. Outpatient treatment centers follow a similar approach in their programs. Several types of medications are effective for treating depression, including SSRIs, SNRIs, atypical antidepressants, Tricyclic antidepressants, and MAOIs. It’s important to follow medical advice and take depression medication as prescribed; never stop or decrease medication dosage without consulting a physician.

Individual psychotherapy is a common treatment for depression, but in an inpatient setting, group sessions may also be utilized. Family and couples therapy are other treatment options. Research has shown that cognitive therapy, behavioral therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and interpersonal therapy are all effective therapies for depression.

HOW WE HELP

We're Here to Help Kentucky Recover from Addiction.

Depression Treatment At Our Drug Rehab Center

The Robert Alexander Center provides holistic addiction treatment. Each program is designed with unique features to treat addiction.

We work with individuals who struggle with alcohol, opioids, cocaine, and heroin use. We are trained and experienced to provide additional programming to address a variety of mental health concerns, including depression. We offer groups for men, women, professionals, and members of the LGBTQ+ community.

We know that depression is the most common mental health struggle found with addiction. If you are struggling with depression and addiction, we would be able to treat both of these struggles. We can provide depression treatment within all of our different addiction treatment programs.

Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) are designed for you to attend treatment for 6 to 8 hours each day and return home after you’re done with programming for the day. We use group and individual therapy in our PHP program. This program is designed for individuals who have a safe and supportive home environment. We offer community housing for those who do not have a healthy home environment for those who are active in their treatment with us.

Our Outpatient Programs and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) are often recommended for those who have completed an inpatient rehab program or for those who have a mild use disorder. With our Outpatient programs, you will be in group therapy each week with an hour of individual therapy per week. Your treatment schedule will be dependent on your specific treatment needs. We will work with you to try and find a treatment schedule that will work with your responsibilities. Individuals in our IOP are also invited to use our community housing option if they need a healthy environment.

If you find yourself having questions about the services offered at The Robert Alexander Center, please call us and a representative will discuss how we can help you today. Our staff and exceptional programming will help you feel confident about moving forward in your recovery journey.
